Success Story
I am a success because I am truly following my dream, my passion. My passion is teaching! From ballet to baton twirling, I love it all! I have wanted to be a dance teacher and business owner since I can remember, literally I remember being 3 years old and wanting to be just like my dance teacher! As I got older my dance activities became more and more important to me. I was accepted into the dance major program at Western Michigan University where I intensely studied dance for 4 years. Now, I am co-owner of the Kalamazoo School of Music and Dance. I am currently continuing my education in business through the Small Business Coaching Center. I believe what I learned from my teachers has helped me achieve these goals.
My teachers were some of the best role models. They taught me much more than how to do a pirouette or twirl a baton. I learned good sportsmanship, how to win and how to lose. My teachers were encouraging and helped me realize my potential when I was discouraged. I also learned that working hard to achieve your goals can and should be applied to all aspects of life. Self esteem is another skill I gained from my teachers, to be happy with yourself and your body image.
Now, I am able to pass on these skills and more. I love helping my students decide on a goal and doing what it takes to achieve that goal. I believe that there is something special in each and every one of my students and I love helping them find that. There is a place in the fine arts for everyone from every background and level. I hope that I can be a positive role model and be someone who helps students find their passion."

A Special Needs Pageant For Contestants With Intellectual Disabilities
Miss and Mr I Am a Star Pageant
Our Story: Our director is Andrea Hernandez. Miss Andrea was recently crowned Miss Michigan US Beauties. As Miss Michigan, she helped out at the Special Olympics Basketball event in Kalamazoo. She was very inspired by the enthusiasm and heart of the athletes. She decided that everyone deserved to feel like ROYALTY! This is where it all started. We are a very special pageant for our fantastic Star contestants! This pageant is for contestants ages 5 and up.
Our Goal: The goal of the Miss and Mr. I Am a Star Pageant is to make our contestants feel like royalty.We believe there is a place in the world of pageantry for everyone and hope many will find their place with us!
What do I need to participate?
Girls will need a formal style dress. Boys will need either a suite or nice pants along with a button up shirt and tie. Miss Andrea can help you figure it out.
What do I do on stage?
Miss Andrea is offering 2 FREE half hour lessons to help prepare for the pageant. If a parent or guardian is needed on stage with the contestant they will need to be at the lessons to be prepared. Basically they will enter the stage and come to the center and do a few turns and exit. Contestants will also have the choice to introduce themselves and speak in a microphone if they are comfortable.
What if I don't win?
At our pageant, everyone will go away a winner! Each contestant will receive: A Beautiful Crown Embroidered Banner Flowers Gift Bag
When is the pageant?
Sunday June 27th at the Kalamazoo Girl Scout Programming and Training Center 601 W. Maple St. Kalamazoo, MI 49008
Contestants and onstage helpers arrival time will be given after the deadline on June 7th. Audience arrive at 2:15 Pageant starts at 2:30
How much does it cost?
Registration fee per contestant is $60. There is no profit from this pageant, all money goes towards the event. This includes: Real Crowns, Custom Banners, Decorations, Flowers, Gift Bags and many Surprise Awards. June 7th is the last day to register. Crowns and Banners will be ordered on June 7th and will take time to get shipped. Anyone who wants to register after that date will be subject to extra fees to rush ship the awards.
